New Iraqi Security Body

Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said on July 15, 2004, that the Interim Government had established a new security body, the General Security Directorate (GSD) to help restore stability. He described the organization as an internal intelligence unit, although he implied that it would have police powers, saying that the GSD would "eliminate those terrorist groups".
